Art from the Heart

You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. – Maya Angelou

As a little girl, I learned to embroider, crochet, sew, and tie quilts. Then I got a little older and learned to knit, tat, cross-stitch, make baskets, and sculpt clay. Later, I became an avid quilter and spent many hours piecing and hand stitching intricate quilt tops. I always loved making things with my hands. When I started doing massages in 1994, I began to think of myself as a healer, and my hands as powerful, and almost sacred, healing tools.

After Craig and I moved to Virginia in 2003, I serendipitously ended up managing a scrapbooking store. I was unfamiliar with scrapbooking, and after spending 8 years doing massage, considered it a waste of money and time. My intention was simply to do my job and stay completely detached, but within a few short weeks, I’d become familiar with many of the scrapbooking supplies on the market and purchased most of the things I liked in our store, and was enthusiastically shopping all the other scrapbooking and rubber stamp stores in the area as well.

Needless to say, I’d become like millions of other women; seriously hooked! I’d also begun to understand what scrapbooking is really all about. Scrapbooking is not just a frivolous way for bored women to spend their time, like I’d previously thought. Scrapbooking is about putting down on paper, in a personalized way, what you love and value most.

There’s no right or wrong way to scrapbook, it’s simply a fun way to celebrate moments and record your thoughts. Making a scrapbook can be a wonderfully detailed endeavor, or as simple as placing your pictures and feelings on a page.

I’m not an ultra gifted artist by any means, but I am a creator through and through. I love scrapbooking and card making because there are so many delightful possibilities, and at this point in my life, I just wanna have fun!

I like making cards and books that say what I’m feeling in my heart.
